Education / Special Education Assistance and Advocacy
Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for kinship children to struggle in school. Many children were not provided with sufficient academic support and encouragement prior to being placed with their relative. Many kinship children may have developmental disabilities as result of the neglect, abuse they suffered prior to being placed with their relative. Caregivers often find that their children have not been assessed or diagnosed for learning disabilities and for the first time may have to learn how to navigate the special education system.

The Rose House provides caregivers and children with information and assistance pertaining to the general and special education systems. Staff is available to assist caregivers in requesting assessments and services for their child. Staff is also available to accompany caregivers to IEP and other academic meetings.
