Support Groups & Training
Raising another family member's child is often overwhelming, stressful and complicated. Many caregivers feel alone in their experience. For many grandparents and older caregivers, their dreams of a relaxing retirement have been drastically altered, and now include the rearing of young children. Support groups provide caregivers the opportunity to meet with others in similar circumstances. In support groups, caregivers find encouragement, hope and a safe place to express their feelings. In group caregivers share information, resources and provide each other with a strong support system. All caregiver trainings are designed to meet the specific issues and needs of kinship caregivers Training topics include: parenting the angry child, raising children exposed to drugs and alcohol, parenting with positive discipline, etc). Trainings are held throughout the week at various times and locations throughout San Diego County.
